It's worth mentioning that I only use Lightroom to edit my photos. I've never really used anything else to edit my photos, unless you count the built in editing software on my phone. This is kind of a continuation of the previous blog, but I'm going to be talking more about what I do when I edit.
When I began this photography venture I really had to get serious about learning Adobe Lightroom. I watched countless tutorials and spent hours studying other people's work. I ended up using this information as a foundation for the style that I wanted to develop. Eventually my pictures started looking more natural, as opposed to artificial. What I mean by that is, I was no longer over sharpening or smoothing the skin of my subjects. My colors started to pop without looking over saturated. Obviously, opinions about the way I edit will vary, but I can say, with complete honesty, that I feel a lot better about my edits than I did when I first began.
Here's a couple of examples on a quick edit I did specifically for this blog.
(Top) A quick edit of a picture of my stunning fiance, Kenia. (the K in A K Photography)
(Middle) This was just a quick edit, but it gives you a better Idea of the kind of things you can do with this program. I didn't really mess with the color so much. I focused more on the way you can alter the lighting of a RAW file. The before image, in my opinion, looks a little over exposed. I went ahead and lowered the exposure and then raised my highlights just a bit. In most of my images I love to raise the shadows to bring in more detail. I usually lower my whites, but I liked the way it looked when I raised them on this picture. Finally, I usually lower my blacks in all of my edits.
(Bottom) Just a screenshot of the adjustments I made. I also included my original camera settings. I was using an external flash on this image.
When editing just go with what you like and what you think looks good.
